Passiflora is recognized by Commission E and ESCOP for relieving anxiety, nervousness, muscle spasms and neuralgic pain. These organizations have also approved its use to treat digestive and sleep disorders related to mental stress. In 2001, a clinical trial conducted with a pure extract of passionflower showed that the herb was as effective as a benzodiazepine anxiolytic in relieving generalized anxiety.

Use

RECOMMENDED USES

Used in herbal medicine as a sleep aid for restlessness or insomnia due to mental stress.

RECOMMENDED DOSE

Adolescent (13 years and older) and Adult (oral): 1 to 2 capsules, one to four times daily.

DURATION OF USE

Consult a health care practitioner if use continues beyond 4 weeks.
